Inline Suggestions
Use the AI selection toolbar to rewrite, shorten, expand, or fix selected text.
The inline suggestion toolbar appears whenever you select text in the LaTeX editor (5 or more characters). It floats just above the selection and lets you trigger AI actions with a single click.
The selection toolbar
Select any text in the editor — a small toolbar appears above it:
| Button | Action |
|---|---|
| ✨ Rewrite | Rewrite the selection for clarity and academic tone |
| ↓ Shorter | Make the selection more concise |
| ↑ Longer | Expand the selection with more detail |
| ✓ Fix grammar | Correct grammar, spelling, and style |
How it works
Click and drag (or use keyboard: Shift + arrow keys) to select any text in the editor.
The toolbar appears above the selection. Click the desired action.
The AI processes the request and shows the proposed change as a tracked diff — the original text and the suggested replacement are both visible.
Click Accept to apply the change, or Reject to keep the original. No keyboard shortcut needed — the buttons appear next to the diff.
Inline suggestions always go through the tracked diff review step — they are never applied automatically without your approval.
When to use inline suggestions vs. chat
| Scenario | Use |
|---|---|
| Quick fix of a specific sentence or paragraph | Inline toolbar |
| Broad improvements to a whole section | Chat: "Improve the clarity of the Introduction" |
| Grammar check of selected text | Inline toolbar → Fix grammar |
| Rewriting with specific instructions | Chat: "Rewrite the abstract using more formal language and under 250 words" |
| Expanding a bullet point into prose | Inline toolbar → Longer |
